Pingba Sake Wine: An Innovative Blend of Culture and Design

Zhanqiang Yang's Award-Winning Design Merges Japanese Tradition with Chinese Sensibilities

Unveiling the story behind the creation of Pingba Sake Wine, an innovative design by Zhanqiang Yang that merges Japanese tradition with Chinese sensibilities. This design, awarded Silver in A' Packaging Design Award in 2020, is not just a label but an inspiring piece of art that resonates with consumers.

Zhanqiang Yang, the designer behind Pingba Sake Wine, was inspired by the psychological power of strength. As a new foreign brand in China, Yang aimed to create a product that was both memorable and relatable to consumers. The name 'Pingba' in Chinese pronunciation sounds like 'pinba', which translates to struggle. To further emphasize this concept, Yang depicted a diving eagle on the label, symbolizing fearlessness and hard work, hoping to inspire consumers with its majestic image.

What sets Pingba Sake Wine apart from other brands is its unique label design. The label, which does not need to be glued, is attached to the bottle with a sports bracelet. This design allows the label to serve a dual purpose. Not only is it an identifier for the product, but it also transforms into an exquisite card that can be preserved. After consuming the sake, customers can remove the bracelet and wear it, allowing the spirit of 'Pingba' to continuously inspire them.

The label is made from Japanese paper and is fixed to the bottle with a silicone bracelet. The design process involved careful consideration of materials and aesthetics. Initially, a folded label was considered to enhance the element of surprise for the consumer. However, to maintain the integrity and simplicity of the design, an integrated label with bronzing technology was finally chosen.

Yang's design is a result of meticulous research and understanding of the market. The sake market in Shenzhen is highly competitive with many brands vying for attention. Despite the strong brand and regional endorsement of Japanese sakes, their names often hold no unique meaning for Chinese consumers. Coupled with a lack of differentiation in packaging, these brands are not easily remembered or distinguished. Yang's design, with its similar pronunciation and unique meaning, successfully addresses these issues.

In conclusion, Zhanqiang Yang's innovative design for Pingba Sake Wine is a testament to the power of thoughtful design. By merging cultural sensibilities with a unique design approach, Yang has created a product that is not only visually appealing but also resonates with consumers on a deeper level. The design's success is further validated by its Silver A' Packaging Design Award in 2020, a prestigious recognition of creative and professionally remarkable designs.
